**When should an acoustic consultant join a project?** At civil design stage.
Sight lines, seating layout, stage geometry and room volume are fixed there and
they set the ceiling on what the acoustics can achieve.

**Acoustics only, or the whole auditorium?** Either. Complete auditorium design
covers acoustics, AV, drapery, lighting, seating and sight lines together;
acoustic-only or AV-only specialist appointments are also undertaken.

**Can a bad-sounding existing hall be fixed?** Usually. An assessment measures
reverberation, background noise and intelligibility, and remedial design targets
the specific causes.

**What reverberation time should an auditorium have?** It depends on use and
volume. Speech-led halls target a shorter RT60 than music-led halls, and IS 4954
gives recommended ranges against room volume. Background noise has to be held low
